Khor Virap and the History of Gregory the Illuminator
A historical and pilgrimage site, Khor Virap, is an inseparable part of Armenian history. Located in the Ararat Province, the monastery is 40 km from the center of Yerevan. The history of Khor Virap goes back to pre-Christian times in Armenia, when Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned in the monastery for 13 years. After liberation, he became the king's religious advisor, and in 301 AD, Armenia adopted Christianity. A tour to this architectural landmark will make you closer to the spiritual aspects and bring you closer to the history of Armenia.
